Amherst always aims to be as inclusive as possible. We deliver High Quality Inclusive Practice (HQIP) strategies for all children in class, including those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
Additional Learning Programmes are sometimes provided for children with needs in particular areas of learning or to support their physical or educational development. These programmes can be delivered in class by respective teachers or by Learning Support Assistants, or the children may receive extra support outside the classroom from specialist teachers or staff from different services, linked with our school to provide a range of support mechanisms.
Programmes include but are not limited to:
'Fundamentals' - lead by the Sports Commission to support the development of gross motor skills
Amherst Primary Scxhool also has external support from specialist teaching partners including:
Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)- specialist speech and language therapists
Occupational Therapy (OT) - specialist therapist to support children's gross and fine motor skill development
Physiotherapy - specialists provide 1:1 support for special physical needs
Les Voies Outreach (LVO) – social, emotional and behavioural support for a range of needs
In addition to this, we have our community support partner including:
KPMG - provide regular 1:1 reading practice with children in school
