Pupil Voice Group

At Amherst, we always aim to empower children to make a difference for themselves, our school and for the world around them. Through harnessing children's natural leadership skills, cultivating their ideas and discussing ways in which our school could be improved, we aim to develop a culture where children have a positive voice and regular  opportunities to play an active role in decisions made about developing their learning, well-being and support for one another.

We ensure that the rights of children are respected, and we provide opportunities for our pupils to become a part of a variety of leadership groups where they are able to improve, develop and enhance their knowledge, understanding and skills. Some of these skills and attributes include: 

Our Pupil Voice Group is a combination of two previous groups of pupils. One part is a 'School Council' type, a representative group of children who have been proposed and elected by their peers to represent their views and raise issues with their class teachers, PTA and senior leaders of the school. The other part of our Pupil Voice Group is composed of children who helped guide our school to our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award. They ensure we remain a rights-respecting school and help to forge ways of making positive changes that benefit everyone at Amherst Primary School.
