    Travelling to and from school

    At Amherst Primary School, we encourage children to walk or cycle to school, not only because of the health benefits, but also because of trying to reduce traffic and congestion around the school during busy times.

    Car Parking

    Car parking around the school is extremely limited.

    We advise parents to use Beau Sejour car park, which is available to all Amherst families at drop-off and pick-up times.

    We would ask that if you are parking in the streets surrounding our school, you observe the 'no parking areas' and do not leave your car in an unsafe location.

    Amherst School Bus Service

    Our school bus drop-off and pick-up points are below. These are the updated routes for 2026–27.

    Please note, parents need to be with their children both in the morning and waiting for them at the end of the day.

    To access the bus routes for the island, please use the link below, or read the information further down the page.

    1. When the main map of the island appears, click on the square icon at the bottom right-hand side of the screen;
    2. A list of school names will appear, click on the arrow to the left of “Primary Schools”. All Primary School bus routes will then be shown.
    3. To view a bus route, click the icon of a crossed-through eye. The route will then be highlighted on the map in red. Please note – you will have to drag the map to the relevant part of the island.
    4. To view a different route, click again on the eye symbol of the route you are currently viewing (to cross it through), then select another.
    5. This will help to guide you through possible journeys to and from school should you want to access the bus service.

    Bikeability

    Some of our children cycle to school, and we offer Years 5 and 6 children an opportunity to participate in a cycling proficiency course called ‘Bikeability’.

    Before children cycle to school, we ask that you read and sign the cycling permission form available from our school office.

    Bike racks are situated by the main school office for children to leave their bikes securely during the school day.
