Safeguarding and Child Protection

The welfare of a child is paramount. All children, regardless of age, gender, culture, race, ability, sexual identity or religion, have equal protection rights, safeguarding and opportunities. 'Every child, every chance, every day.'

Amherst is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its learners, and this commitment is woven through everything that we do. At all times, the best interests of the child must come first.

We take safeguarding very seriously at Amherst Primary School, with the children's safety being our top priority. 

For information, The Children's Law (Guernsey and Alderney) 2008 states that all States Departments have a duty to work together and share information to ensure that children and young people get the services they require. This is essential to protect children and young people from suffering harm, abuse or neglect and to prevent them from offending.

All island schools are required to comply with the Interagency Guidelines on Child Protection.

The guidelines emphasise that everyone has an important part to play in preventing the abuse of children, and in responding to situations where they think that a child may be suffering, or at risk of suffering from serious harm.

Therefore, should we have concerns about a child or believe that a child has suffered or is likely to suffer serious harm, then one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads outlined above will make enquiries to you and may also contact the Multi-Agency Support Hub (MASH) using the MASH Enquiry Form (see below):
